Patter is a daily walking meditation app made by Sidedoor Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app and this website collect, why, and how you can delete it.
The short version
- You can sign in with Apple. We get an account ID from Apple and an email address, which can be Apple’s private relay address if you choose to hide your email. If you start a walk without signing in, the app makes an account ID for you with no email attached.
- We store the days you finish a walk, so your streak follows you to a new phone.
- Your reminder time stays on your phone.
- The app sends us a short list of named usage events and crash reports, so we can see what works and fix what breaks. They hold no words you type and no email address.
- If you answer a question in the app, we store your answer. If you write a note or leave an email, we store that too.
- If you join the Android waitlist on this website, we store your email address.
- No ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, and we don’t sell your data.
- You can delete your account and everything tied to it from Settings at any time.
What we collect in the app
Account. When you sign in with Apple, Apple gives us a unique account ID and an email address. If you choose “Hide My Email”, we only see a relay address that Apple forwards to you. We don’t get your name, and we never see your Apple password. If you don’t sign in, the app creates an account ID with no email, so your walks can still be saved.
Walks. When you pass the halfway point of a walk, the app saves a record with:
- the date of the walk (your local calendar day)
- which day’s meditation you walked
- how far into the walk you were when it counted
- the time it was saved
We use this only to show your streak and your week, and to restore them if you reinstall the app or switch phones.
Your answers. From time to time the app asks a short question, such as how a walk felt or why you stopped early. We store the answer you tap, which question it was, and when you answered. If you choose to write a note, or leave an email address so we can write back, we store those too. We also store the app version, your iOS version and phone model, and, when the question is about a walk, which walk and guide it was and how long you listened. When the question is about audio trouble, we also store where the sound was playing (for example, the speaker or headphones). These answers are tied to your account ID. Writing a note or leaving an email is always your choice, and we read what you write.
Usage events. The app sends a small set of named events to PostHog, such as a walk starting or finishing, or an answer being sent. Each event carries only simple values like a screen name, the answer you picked, true or false, or a number. It never carries words you type or your email address. There is no session recording and no screen recording, and your location is not recorded. When you are signed in, or have an account ID, events are tied to that account ID. Builds used for development and demos send nothing.
Crash reports. If the app crashes, it sends a crash report to PostHog the next time you open it, so we can find and fix the problem.
Kept only on your phone. Your reminder time and on/off setting, the last 7 downloaded meditations, and a copy of your walk history. These are not sent to us.
What we collect on this website
Visits. This website uses PostHog web analytics to count visits and a few simple actions, such as tapping the App Store button. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It does not record sessions, and we don’t store your IP address. Each event notes what kind of device you are on (iPhone, Android or computer). Your email address is never sent to analytics.
Android waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, which form you used (the one at the top or the one at the bottom of the page), the kind of device you were on, and the time you joined. This is kept in Patter’s database at Supabase. We don’t send a confirmation email. We will email the list once, when Patter is on Android. You can ask to be removed at any time by writing to the address below.
What we don’t collect
We don’t collect your location, steps, contacts, photos or microphone audio. The app has no ads, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
Who handles the data
- Supabase stores your account, walk records and answers, and the waitlist, on our behalf. Data is sent over encrypted connections, and access is limited so each account can only read its own walks.
- PostHog (US cloud) receives the app’s usage events and crash reports, and the website’s visit counts. It acts on our behalf and we don’t let it use the data for anything else.
- Resend delivers the emails that tell us when you send a written note or an email address from the app.
- Cloudflare hosts this website.
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple and delivers reminders. Reminders are scheduled on your phone; no reminder data comes to us.
The daily meditations are written and voiced ahead of time with AI services (Anthropic and ElevenLabs). Those services never receive any information about you.
Beta testing. If you use Patter through TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send, with us. Apple’s TestFlight terms cover that data.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, walk records and answers until you delete your account. Waitlist emails are kept until we have emailed the list about the Android launch, or until you ask to be removed. Downloaded meditations on your phone are removed automatically after 7 days.
Deleting your account
In Patter, open Settings and tap Delete account. This:
- revokes Patter’s access to your Apple sign-in, if you signed in with Apple
- deletes your account, all of your walk records and your answers from our servers
- clears your account, walk history and reminder settings from the phone
Deleting the app alone removes the data on your phone but keeps your account on our servers. To delete your account without the app, email us at the address below.
Children
Patter is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete your data. Email us and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your data is used, we’ll tell you in the app first.
